They laughed at us. Said it couldn’t be done. They ridiculed us, called us liars and thieves. “It’s impossible, Hugh… you’re delusional!”
Well, you can’t argue with someone smarter than yourself, I suppose, so I let the naysayers be.
But one fellow that had faith and confidence in our system asked for assistance, and I offered to provide it. He told me the conditions he can work under: start with $5,000, and trade up the profits with the ability to trade multiple times a day.
I added a few more. We will demonstrate it in the Trading Room before a live audience. We will be in no hurry, using scalps and with plenty of time to expiration, as a rule. The rules may be stretched only when necessary, but we will focus primarily on calls, entering trades when the 10 exponential moving average (EMA) crosses the 20 EMA on the one-minute chart, supported by the five-minute chart. We will also use chart patterns and keep an eye on the fundamentals so we do not contradict the general market sentiment. Upon hitting our target, we will step back and stop trading for the day… unless we are on a roll. The rules may also change as conditions change.
The above rules may sound ambiguous, but as much as we want to follow them, we still need some flexibility to cruise with ever-changing conditions. The goal was to take a modest $5,000 and turn it into $50,000 within one year. We also reviewed our progress on a regular basis, including in our Sunday night Week in Review sessions.
Jan. 6 was our first trade, aiming for $200 net gain. This was the goal for the first two months. Despite two losses, we still showed a balance of over $16,000 at the end of February. We upped our target to $240 net gain per day for the following two months. Bear in mind, some days, we trade twice, even three times on occasion. The stakes were higher, and we suffered four substantial losses by the end of the fourth month, down to $11,000, slightly under our targeted balance of $23,000.
May and June ramped our daily gains up to $280 a day. More care and several challenges wrapped up the first half of the year with a balance of $34,000. By the end of the next two months, we held steady at just under $47,000, a time when the goal gradient effect would normally take place. This is the phenomenon I discussed in a recent newsletter, where the human tendency is to hurry up as we near the end, causing carelessness and a possible, even probable major setback.
We were very diligent near the end as September presented itself, gradually ramping up our balance of $47,220 to the finish line of $50,146 on Sept. 26, less than nine months into the program.
The entire project was narrated in the Trading Room, supported by our regular indicators. My partner, Jon Johnson, and I discussed the trades in advance, apprising everyone of our intentions. We chatted about the strategy, entry and exit points. We paid close attention to our greed and eased into positions only when we had market clarity.
Others followed and demonstrated similar results. Some started late, others from the outset. Either way, we proved that not only can it be done, but we actually did it. If anyone ever doubts your ability to make serious money day trading options on our preferred stock, SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), tell them to eat crow. All it takes is a solid strategy combined with emotional control. A little paying attention goes a long way in this business and, of course, humility. Park your ego at the door and reap the rewards.
Will we extend the goal or start a new chapter? We will discuss this and decide within the next couple weeks. Stay tuned and join us for the announcement on our Sunday night sessions. Click here to join this Sunday at 8 p.m., ET.
Meanwhile, join our Trading Room, where it all happens with Jon and myself, 9:20 to 10:30 a.m., ET, daily.
