As I write this, I am stranded in Frederick, Maryland, a small city of about 78,000 souls near the Washington Metropolitan Area. We’re not really “stranded”; we were just driving home from Florida and stopped about seven hours out, waiting for blizzard lake effect snow and cold conditions to clear back home in the Buffalo, New York area.
One of the things I love about day trading the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) options is the flexibility it affords me and my family. For example, we can slip off to Florida for a few days for some liquid sunshine, then wind our way back north through the Inauguration Day Washington area. The best way to see America is on rubber tires, stopping at various communities along the way, chatting it up with the locals.
Topping my bucket list is doing just that, getting to know this great country state by state. Air travel only takes you to indistinguishable airports. You really experience it all on the ground. As a day trader, I can work on my laptop wherever I am, even on the International Space Station, if Mr. Musk will let me hitch a ride.
The second thing I love is that I can trade as much or as little as I want. Whether I sit in front of my trading platform for five minutes, five hours or not at all, it doesn’t matter. Nobody is bothered by my involvement on the stock market.
Coming in third, I can trade whenever I want. Would your boss tolerate you showing up for work at 11 a.m.? Probably not.
Fourth on my list: my trading business has a very low capital cost. Once my computer is paid for, I only need an internet connection, available most anywhere, including my beautiful hotel in Frederick.
Number five is that you trade with as much capital as you can afford. Would you believe there are traders in our fold who started out with just a couple thousand dollars?
Sixth is that results are directly affected by your input. When you achieve that coveted level of discipline and patience, the world is your oyster, as they say. Draw your own paycheck, at will, by day trading options.
Number seven: no employees! In today’s crazy business world, the best employee is no employee. Day trading checks that box too.
Number eight: no government agencies such as the health board, labor or fire department breathing down your neck determining your fate to earn a living. Imagine that autonomy!
Number nine: favorable tax advantages. In most jurisdictions, our gains are taxed at a reduced capital gains rate.
My top reason to day trade SPY is the freedom it affords me. While down south, my wife surprised me with the most thoughtful gift. She asked if I wanted to go to Disney — I abhorred the thought without my kids. The last time we went as a family was years ago and I saw no point in experiencing it without them. They are now grown up with lives of their own, and trying to organize such a family event would be like herding cats. It would be just too complicated.
Well, get this: the very next day, while my wife, Dale Ann, was taking one of her annoying selfies, suddenly we were photobombed! I quickly turned around to see who would be as bold… and there they were: my son and daughter flew in to shock me for my 70th birthday!
Needless to say, the next couple days were fantastic as we park hopped and relived some wonderful memories. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was overcome by emotion.
Day trading enables me to stay that extra time, and even as I host the Trading Room, we never miss a beat. We can execute our trades from anywhere in the world! All you need is a cell phone.
I now extend this opportunity to you: learn to trade options. Create your own wealth. Do it on your own terms. As long as there is a stock market, you can make money.
