Form a recent email… “Hugh, I noticed you don’t comment on current market conditions much. You talk about other things, often entertaining and informative, but not much about the current state of the market. Don’t you think we should know whether you think the market will go up or down in the next little while? Other gurus make their predictions.”
First of all, stock market research company CXO Advisory Group, found, on average, across various market gurus, that their accuracy is just under 47%. That means that they are wrong more often than right. Is that who you want to follow?
My answer to the question about commenting on market conditions is simple: who cares?
It sounds boorish, but it really doesn’t matter what I think. After all, the market is the market, and the collective opinions of all the participants will determine whether our preferred stock, SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), to rise or fall accordingly. The other reason it doesn’t matter is because we will make money whether this stock, which follows the basket of the top 500 stocks, rises or falls. As short-term options traders, we can identify short-term moves on the underlying asset and trade accordingly. If SPY shows indications of an impending rise, we buy call options. If it suggests an imminent drop, we prepare for a purchase on put options. Options are highly leveraged derivatives that deliver huge returns.
Our goal is not to score home runs with every trade; that is merely a pipe dream that sends many a trader’s aspirations up in smoke. The reality is that any trader, from novice to well-seasoned, can make an excellent living by taking smaller gains several times a day. These minor increments are relatively easy to procure using our time-tested, signature methodologies, and over time, your nest egg can fully bloom into an amazing cache of cash!
I love the strategies that many newbies use. They start small, earning a mere $200 a day, which they collect almost by accident. Several months later, they increase their take to $300 a day, and within a year, they pocket $500 and more a day. Extrapolated, $500 a day is $130,000 a year, but here’s the thing: it is much easier to make larger gains when you have a higher capital base. In other words, your daily take could grow exponentially as you earn more. It is not uncommon to target thousands of dollars a day once you hit that plateau with a well-capitalized account.
As for market commentary, my only concern is the impact economic and political news will have on interest rates. The market abhors high interest rates, usually ushering in a drop in SPY. An economy flush with cash and/or low interest rates clears the path for a rise in markets. The tech heavy Magnificent Seven stocks generally lead the way. Our job is not so much to predict long-term market tendencies but react to short-term emerging situations.
Therefore, for longer term macro market commentary, there are plenty of sites to visit. If you just want to learn how to make money every day, DayTradeSPY is where — or rather, the only place — you need to be.
