Find Your Preferred Strategy

Trading is not a “one size fits all” endeavor. We all come from different backgrounds and possess various skills, experiences and styles. Even with regards to myself, I found that my trading approach has changed over the years, even from months ago. I may not be as aggressive now as I was in my earlier years, preferring to lay in wait for that perfect setup, much as a cat patiently waits for a mouse to pop out of a hole. I no longer feel that insatiable need to always be in a trade just because the stock market is open.

Our methodologies have also evolved over time. I started my trading career with equities, much the same as most people, I’m guessing. I would buy and sell shares of companies I loved — firms I had some connection with. Then, I realized they do not know or care about me. Why should I buy them just because I buy their products?

At some point, I also recognized the power of options, where leverage means I can invest much less and still take advantage of a stock move. Eventually, I discovered trading options on the SPY (SPDR S&P 500 Exchange Traded Fund). This stock covers it all, is fully diversified, is extremely liquid, is relatively predictable and is even quite forgiving. If there’s a better stock to trade, I sure have not yet found it.

Our system is based on what I call our “Bread and Butter Strategy,” a standard setup that seems to foretell where the stock may well go in the short to medium term. This methodology forms the basis of all our other strategies, essentially identifying the likely path the stock will take. It is centered on fundamental and technical analysis.

Trust me when I tell you that I have looked at many game plans to making money on the market. I have yet to find an approach anywhere close to the “Bread and Butter.” I had limited success with spreads and even tried naked trading (not what you think) only to end up stuck with the stock. If I was lucky, I made a little profit but nowhere near the gains day-trading SPY options brings.

Our “Bread and Butter” Strategy is designed for newbies as well as seasoned traders. It is not that complicated when you truly understand the nuances behind the trades. Traders often get caught up in the simplicity of it. And that is what we do; keep it as super simple as possible. After all, stocks go up, and they go down. All we have to do is get the propensity of the direction and aim for modest, consistent gains. Pure and painless.

So why do so many find it difficult to make money on the market? I believe traders innately seek complexity. They like to create problems where none exist by entangling themselves in intricate indicators and studies as if there’s some magic to it all — only to find there isn’t any. The market is merely a collective opinion of the value of a particular stock at the moment. That opinion can and does change. We just have to be at the forefront and anticipate its next move.

Most traders only see what is happening at the moment. Our aim is to envision the future. That puts us in the top 5% of options traders. If traders are set to lose money, they might as well lose it to us.
